Outer tie rod end for 1965–1969 Chevrolet and Pontiac vehicles, designed to replace worn steering linkage and restore safe, responsive steering. This right- or left-hand outer tie rod end secures the steering knuckle to the inner tie rod, maintaining correct toe alignment and reducing play, vibration, and uneven tire wear. Precision-machined threads and a durable ball stud with protective boot provide long service life and reliable performance on classic Chevy and Pontiac models. Ideal for restoration projects or routine suspension maintenance, the part improves steering feel and vehicle safety while being straightforward to install with common hand tools.
Features:
- Fitment: Direct-fit outer tie rod end for 1965–1969 Chevrolet and Pontiac models (right or left hand application).
- Durable construction with a hardened ball stud and corrosion-resistant finish for long service life.
- Sealed rubber dust boot protects the joint from dirt and moisture to reduce premature wear.
- Restores steering precision and reduces play, vibration, and uneven tire wear on classic cars.
- Threaded design allows for toe adjustment during installation; suitable for restoration and replacement.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 45-90 minutes
Instructions:
- Park on level ground, engage parking brake, loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly.
- Raise the vehicle with a floor jack and support securely on jack stands. Remove the front wheel.
- Locate the outer tie rod end at the steering knuckle and clean the area to expose the castle nut and cotter pin (if present).
- Remove the cotter pin and loosen or remove the castle nut or retaining nut on the tie rod end.
- Separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle using a tie rod end puller or a pickle fork. Avoid striking the steering knuckle directly to prevent damage.
- Mark the position or count the number of thread turns between the outer tie rod and the inner tie rod to preserve approximate toe alignment, or measure the length from a fixed point for reference.
- Unscrew the outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod and remove the old part.
- Screw the new outer tie rod end onto the inner tie rod to the same number of turns or measured length to approximate previous alignment.
- Insert the ball stud into the steering knuckle and tighten the retaining nut to the manufacturer's specified torque. Install a new cotter pin if applicable.
- If the tie rod end has a grease fitting, apply grease until the boot slightly expands; wipe away excess.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the wheel lug nuts to specification.
- Have a professional wheel alignment performed immediately after installation to ensure correct toe settings and optimal tire wear.
