A direct-fit rear glass-to-trunk (deck) filler panel designed for 1970–1981 Camaro and Firebird models. This replacement panel restores the factory gap and alignment between the backlight and trunk opening, helping prevent water intrusion, wind noise, and panel vibration. Made to durable specifications for restoration and repair projects, it provides a reliable, long-lasting solution that simplifies reassembly and improves the finished appearance of the rear deck area.
Features:
  • Fits 1970–1981 Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird (all body styles within these years).
  • Heavy-gauge stamped steel construction for strength and longevity.
  • Restores correct alignment between rear glass and trunk deck to reduce wind noise and water leaks.
  • Prevents rust migration and damage by replacing corroded or missing original metal.
  • Direct-fit design minimizes trimming and fabrication; suitable for restoration or repair applications.
  • Can be welded or bonded in place depending on installer preference; prepared for finishing and seam sealing.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 4/5
  • Estimated time: 2–6 hours (varies with rust repair, welding, and finishing)
Suggested Tools:
  • Angle grinder or cut-off tool
  • Welding machine (MIG/TIG) or structural panel adhesive
  • Clamps and sheet-metal pliers
  • Drill and drill bits
  • Body hammer and dolly (as needed)
  • Seam sealer and rust-inhibiting primer
  • Paint supplies (primer, topcoat)
  • Safety gear (gloves, eye protection, respirator)
Instructions:
  1. Prepare: Disconnect battery if welding. Remove interior trim, trunk mat, and rear glass or protect and support it per glass removal guidelines.
  2. Assess & mark: Inspect the old filler area and mark cut lines. Measure and verify fitment of the new panel by dry-fitting it to the deck opening.
  3. Remove old panel: Cut away the corroded or damaged filler panel and clean surrounding metal back to solid, rust-free metal.
  4. Fit & adjust: Trial-fit the replacement panel, trim or notch as needed for proper gaps and alignment. Use clamps to hold panel in place.
  5. Attach: Weld the panel in a series of short tack welds to avoid distortion, or use approved structural adhesive following manufacturer cure times. Ensure good metal-to-metal contact at seams.
  6. Finish welds & seams: Grind welds smooth if welded. Apply seam sealer to all exposed joints to prevent moisture intrusion.
  7. Protect & paint: Prime bare metal with a rust-inhibiting primer, then paint to match the surrounding area. Allow proper drying/curing.
  8. Reassemble: Reinstall rear glass (or have glass reinstalled by a professional if removed), interior trim, and trunk components. Inspect seals and test for leaks.
