This left-hand inner tie rod end is a direct-fit replacement designed for 1970-1975 Pontiac Firebird models. It secures the inner portion of the steering linkage, maintaining proper alignment and steering responsiveness while minimizing play and vibration. Manufactured to meet or exceed OEM specifications, the part delivers durable performance, improved handling, and long-term reliability — making it ideal for restoration projects or routine suspension maintenance. Easy to install with common hand tools, it restores precise steering feel and helps extend life of outer tie rod and steering components.
Features:
  • Fits 1970-1975 Pontiac Firebird (left-hand inner tie rod end).
  • Direct-fit replacement engineered to match original steering geometry.
  • High-strength steel construction for durability and long service life.
  • Precision ball stud and tapered fit reduce play and improve steering response.
  • Protective dust boot helps prevent contamination and extend component life.
  • Ideal for restorations and routine suspension repairs; improves alignment stability.
  • Easy to install with basic tools; saves on labor and downtime.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 3/5
  • Estimated time: 45-90 minutes
Suggested Tools:
  • Jack and jack stands
  • Wheel chocks
  • 17mm-24mm wrenches (sizes may vary by model year)
  • Tie rod end puller or pickle fork
  • Torque wrench
  • Pliers
  • Hammer
  • Marker or paint pen
  • Grease (if applicable)
  • Anti-seize compound (optional)
Instructions:
  1. Park on level ground, engage parking brake and chock rear wheels.
  2. Loosen the front wheel lug nuts slightly, then lift the front of the vehicle with a jack and support securely on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
  3. Locate the inner tie rod and inspect surrounding components. Use a marker to scribe a reference mark on the inner tie rod and the steering rack or jam nut to preserve toe alignment.
  4. Remove any retaining clips or cotter pins from the tie rod end stud, then loosen the jam nut between the inner and outer tie rod if present.
  5. Use a tie rod end puller or a pickle fork to separate the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle, then unscrew the outer tie rod from the inner assembly far enough to access the inner tie rod connection.
  6. Loosen and remove the inner tie rod end from the steering rack or steering arm, taking care to note any mounting hardware orientation.
  7. Prepare the new inner tie rod: apply a light coat of anti-seize to threads if desired and ensure the dust boot is properly seated.
  8. Thread the new inner tie rod into the steering rack to the previously marked reference position. Tighten to the manufacturer’s specified torque.
  9. Reattach the outer tie rod and tighten the jam nut against the inner tie rod. Reinstall any cotter pins or retaining clips and torque fasteners to spec.
  10. Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque wheel lug nuts to specification.
  11. Have a professional wheel alignment performed immediately after installation to ensure proper toe settings and tire wear prevention.
