Inner tie rod end for 1982-1992 Chevrolet and Pontiac models designed to connect the steering rack to the outer tie rod and accurately transfer steering input while maintaining proper wheel alignment. This replacement part secures the steering linkage, reduces play, and restores precise steering response. Constructed from durable materials and engineered for reliable performance, it is an ideal choice for steering system restoration or maintenance on older Chevy and Pontiac vehicles. Easy to install with basic tools, it helps extend the life of steering components and improve vehicle safety.
Features:
- Fits 1982-1992 Chevrolet and Pontiac models (inner tie rod end, right or left hand applications).
- High-strength construction to withstand steering loads and resist wear.
- Replaces worn or damaged inner tie rods to restore steering precision and reduce play.
- Protective finish to resist corrosion and extend service life.
- Straightforward installation suitable for do-it-yourself mechanics and professional shops.
- Recommended as part of steering or front-end restoration to improve safety and alignment.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 45-90 minutes per side
Instructions:
- Park vehicle on a level surface, engage parking brake and place wheel chocks behind rear wheels.
- Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, then raise the front of the vehicle with a jack and support securely on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
- Apply penetrating oil to the tie rod end fasteners and allow to soak.
- Loosen the jam nut on the outer tie rod so you can preserve the threaded length for approximate alignment when reinstalling.
- Separate the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle using a tie rod remover or pickle fork; remove cotter pin or retaining hardware as applicable.
- Remove the outer tie rod from the inner tie rod assembly if needed to access the inner tie rod attachment to the rack.
- Loosen and remove the inner tie rod retaining nut or clamp at the steering rack, supporting the tie rod as you pull it free.
- Install the new inner tie rod by threading it into the steering rack to the same approximate depth as the original, then tighten the retaining nut or clamp to the manufacturer's torque specification.
- Reassemble the outer tie rod and connect it to the steering knuckle. Tighten the jam nut to secure the adjusted length.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the wheel lug nuts to specification.
- Because exact steering geometry is critical, have a professional front-end alignment performed immediately after installation to ensure proper toe and handling.
