Outer tie rod end (right/left hand) designed to restore steering connection and alignment on 1988–2002 Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, Pontiac and Saturn models. This precision-forged steering component secures the steering rack to the steering knuckle, ensuring responsive, safe handling and reducing play in the steering system. Built for durability and reliable performance, the part resists wear and provides smooth articulation under normal driving conditions. Ideal for steering system repairs, maintenance, or full suspension restoration where worn tie rod ends are causing loose steering, uneven tire wear, or poor alignment.
Features:
- Fits 1988–2002 Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, Pontiac and Saturn models (outer tie rod end, right/left hand).
- Precision-forged steel construction for increased strength and long service life.
- Replaces worn outer tie rod ends to restore steering tightness and alignment accuracy.
- Greaseable or sealed ball joint options to suit service preferences and extend component life.
- Easy bolt-on replacement; designed to match OE dimensions for proper fit and suspension geometry.
- Helps prevent uneven tire wear, vibration, and loose steering response.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 2/5
- Estimated time: 45-90 minutes per side
Instructions:
- Park on level ground, engage parking brake and place wheel chocks behind rear wheels.
- Loosen front wheel lug nuts slightly, raise vehicle with jack and secure on jack stands, then remove the wheel.
- Locate the outer tie rod end where it connects to the steering knuckle and the inner tie rod/steering rack.
- Mark the position of the old tie rod end on the threaded section (count turns or mark alignment) to preserve alignment as a baseline.
- Apply penetrating oil to nut and threads if corroded. Remove the cotter pin (if present) and loosen the castle nut or retaining fastener securing the tie rod end to the knuckle.
- Separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle using a tie rod puller or pickle fork. Avoid excessive hammer strikes to protect mating surfaces.
- Loosen the jam nut on the inner tie rod and unscrew the outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod by the marked position. Count turns to match initial length if possible.
- Install the new outer tie rod end onto the inner tie rod to the previously marked position or to the same number of turns for a close alignment match.
- Insert the tie rod end stud into the steering knuckle, tighten the nut to the manufacturer's specified torque and secure with a new cotter pin if applicable.
- Tighten the jam nut against the tie rod end, torque to specification, and grease the joint if the part is greaseable.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the wheel lug nuts to specification.
- Because exact steering geometry may have changed, have a professional wheel alignment performed after installation to ensure proper steering and tire wear.
