Instructions:
- Park on a level surface, engage parking brake, and loosen the wheel lug nuts slightly.
- Raise the vehicle with a floor jack and secure it on jack stands. Remove the wheel.
- Locate the outer tie rod end at the steering knuckle. Apply penetrating oil to fasteners if necessary.
- Mark the position of the old tie rod end on the inner tie rod or measure from a fixed reference so alignment can be approximated before final alignment.
- Loosen the jam nut on the inner tie rod that secures the outer tie rod end.
- Remove the cotter pin (if present) and loosen the castle nut or retaining nut on the tie rod end stud.
- Use a tie rod end puller or pickle fork to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle, taking care not to damage surrounding components.
- Unscrew the outer tie rod end from the inner tie rod the same number of turns measured during removal, or until it reaches the marked position.
- Install the new outer tie rod end by threading it onto the inner tie rod to the marked position. Tighten the jam nut to secure it.
- Insert the tie rod end stud into the steering knuckle and install the retaining nut. Torque to manufacturer specification and install a new cotter pin if required.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque the wheel lug nuts to specification.
- Have a professional wheel alignment performed to ensure correct toe and prevent uneven tire wear.
