A 1980 Camaro Berlinetta, long abandoned in a barn where it was taken over by mice, was recovered and revived by the original owner's grandson.

The story of this rare vehicle's restoration was told by Autoevolution in an Apr. 24, 2026 post. According to the magazine writer Razvan Calin, this V8 model was purchased by 19,602 buyers. "When, for example, you consider that only 12,237 Camaros across all trims featured a four-speed manual, specific configurations become quite scare," he wrote.

This Camaro was parked in a barn by its original owner, whose grandson -- a "young car nut named Josh" -- pulled it out and restored it, Calin said.

The writer added the car was part of family lore, including stories about the grandfather outrunning police and his mother borrowing it to attend a party while she was in high school--an evening that ended in a crash.

In 2026, the car was passed on down to the grandson who had some work to do. "The interior was a nightmare of mouse droppings, dead carcasses, and mounds of lentils," Calin wrote.

After 15 hours of hard work, he added, the car was transformed to its original sleek, yellow glory. The work was detailed in this video.

"The heavily oxidized paint was clayed and polished," he wrote. "This revealed a surprisingly healthy shine that highlighted the Berlinetta’s sleek lines. While the car still requires mechanical work and body repairs, it is a very sexy-looking pony again."
