The clutch spring has two purposes in your F-Body, which are to assist in counter-acting the spring tensions in the pressure plate diaphragm when you depress the gas pedal, and to act as a return spring and hold the gas pedal against the stop when the pedal is not depressed so that the throwout bearing is not resting on the diaphragm fingers. This part hooks on the coil bracket, going into the gas pedal arm. It is essentially responsible for pulling the gas pedal back to the neutral position. Without this spring, you would feel a difference in the use of your accelerator pad, and you should get it replaced as soon as possible. This throttle return spring replaces the original GM Part #3923501 and will fit your Z28 Big Block 302 engine, 396 engine at 325, 350, and 375 horsepower, 427 engine at 425 horsepower, 427 Yenko, and any other Holley carburetored Big Block.
