This short floating 3/8" gas tank sending unit is a direct-fit replacement designed for classic muscle cars. It provides accurate fuel level readings for 1967–1969 Camaro and Firebird models, as well as 1968–1972 Chevy II / Nova vehicles. Built for restoration and maintenance projects, the unit restores reliable gauge operation, resists corrosion in the fuel environment, and simplifies installation with an OE-style fitment and wiring interface.
Features:
- Fits 1967–1969 Chevrolet Camaro & Firebird and 1968–1972 Chevy II / Nova applications.
- Short floating design with 3/8" mounting stem for tanks requiring a shorter arm travel.
- Corrosion-resistant metal components and sealed electrical connections for long service life.
- Provides accurate, repeatable fuel level readings to restore gauge reliability.
- OE-style replacement simplifies restoration and reduces the need for tank modifications.
- Drop-in style installation for most tanks; compatible with common gaskets and sealing rings.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 1–2 hours
Instructions:
- Work in a well-ventilated area and eliminate ignition sources. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
- Relieve fuel system pressure and safely drain or transfer fuel from the tank to a certified container.
- Raise and securely support the vehicle with jack stands. Support the fuel tank with a floor jack or suitable support.
- Disconnect electrical connector(s), fuel filler neck hose, and fuel lines from the tank. Mark connections if necessary.
- Remove tank straps or mounting hardware and lower the tank enough to access the sending unit or sender access cover.
- Remove the sending unit retaining ring or fasteners, then carefully lift the old sending unit out of the tank to avoid damaging the float or arm.
- Compare the new unit to the old one. Transfer any necessary fittings or gaskets and ensure the float arm has correct clearance inside the tank.
- Install a new gasket or sealing ring, position the sending unit, and secure the retaining ring/fasteners to the specified torque if available.
- Reattach fuel lines and electrical connector(s). Raise the tank back into position and reinstall mounting straps or hardware.
- Lower the vehicle, refill the tank with a small amount of fuel, reconnect the battery, and test gauge operation for correct reading and smooth movement.
- Check for leaks and proper operation after a short test drive; tighten fittings if any leakage is detected.
