This long-floating 3/8" gas tank sending unit is a direct-fit replacement for classic muscle cars, engineered to restore accurate fuel-level readings and reliable performance. Designed for 1967–1969 Camaro and Firebird models, it replaces worn or inaccurate OE sending units and helps maintain proper gauge operation. Constructed with corrosion-resistant components and a stable float assembly, the unit delivers dependable service for restorations and routine maintenance while offering straightforward installation for mechanically minded owners and shops.
Features:
  • Fits 1967–1969 Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird long-tank applications.
  • Long floating design reaches deeper into the tank for more accurate fuel readings.
  • 3/8" fuel line outlet compatible with common fuel hose sizes.
  • Corrosion-resistant components for improved durability in fuel environments.
  • Direct replacement for original long-style sending units to restore gauge accuracy.
  • Simple wiring and mounting reduces install time for restoration projects.
Installation / Application:
  • Difficulty: 2/5
  • Estimated time: 1–2 hours
Suggested Tools:
  • Floor jack and jack stands or lift
  • Socket set and wrenches
  • Screwdrivers
  • Pliers
  • Drain pan or fuel-safe container
  • Rag and cleaning solvent
  • Multimeter (for testing)
  • Safety gloves and eye protection
  • Torque wrench (recommended)
  • Gasket sealant (if required)
Instructions:
  1. Work in a well-ventilated area and relieve fuel system pressure. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Safely support and, if necessary, lower or remove the fuel tank according to vehicle service procedures. Place a drain pan under the tank and catch any fuel.
  3. Clean the sending unit mounting area to prevent contamination. Note fuel line and wiring routing for reassembly.
  4. Disconnect the fuel line and electrical connector from the old sending unit. Use a rag to catch any remaining fuel.
  5. Remove the retaining screws or retaining ring and carefully lift out the old sending unit assembly.
  6. Compare the new sending unit to the old unit to confirm length and fittings match. Transfer any needed hardware or float components if applicable.
  7. Install a new gasket or sealing ring on the tank opening. Position the new sending unit and secure with the original or supplied fasteners. Torque fasteners to spec if available.
  8. Reconnect the fuel line and electrical connector. Ensure clamps are secure and wiring is routed clear of heat or moving parts.
  9. Reinstall the tank (if removed) and reconnect the battery. Refill with a small amount of fuel, then check connections for leaks.
  10. Use a multimeter or cycle the ignition to verify the sending unit provides a changing resistance consistent with float movement and check that the fuel gauge reads properly.
  11. Lower the vehicle (if raised), perform a road test to confirm gauge operation, and recheck for leaks after the test.
