A high-quality complete trunk floor replacement engineered for 1968 Camaro and Firebird models. This precisely formed trunk floor panel restores structural support, original contours, and trunk drainage while stopping further rust and deterioration. Manufactured from durable stamped steel with an OEM-style fit, it provides a long-lasting solution for restorations or repairs and is designed for straightforward fitting, welding or bolting into place. Ideal for returning the trunk area to factory geometry and providing a solid base for finishing and corrosion protection.
Features:
- Fitment: 1968 Chevrolet Camaro and 1968 Pontiac Firebird (trunk floor complete replacement).
- Complete trunk floor assembly restores original contours and trunk drainage.
- Stamped steel construction for strength and long-term durability.
- OEM-style fit minimizes trimming and simplifies installation.
- Pre-formed panels reduce shaping time and ensure correct alignment.
- Prevents further rust and structural deterioration when properly installed and sealed.
- Suitable for restorations, collision repair, and replacement of corroded floor pans.
Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 4/5
- Estimated time: 4-8 hours (depending on experience and extent of rust removal)
Instructions:
- Remove trunk components (mat, spare tire, trim, trunk seal) and disconnect any wiring or fuel filler hardware that interferes.
- Cut out the old, rusted trunk floor back to solid metal using an angle grinder; leave a clean flange for welding where possible.
- Clean and prep surrounding metal: remove rust, paint, and slag; treat bare metal with rust inhibitor or weld-through primer.
- Test-fit the new trunk floor panel to check alignment, clearances, and drain channel orientation; trim minor areas if required for best fit.
- Secure panel in place with clamps or temporary fasteners (clecos or sheet metal screws) and verify fit against trunk openings and rear valance.
- Tack-weld the panel at multiple points to hold alignment; re-check fit and make any final adjustments.
- Complete welds around the perimeter using plug or stitch welds to minimize warping; grind welds smooth where needed.
- Apply seam sealer to all joints and seams, then prime the repaired area with an appropriate metal primer.
- Finish with paint or trunk coating and reinstall trunk components, weatherstrip, and any removed hardware.
- Inspect final installation for gaps, proper drainage, and corrosion protection; touch up as needed.
