Instructions:
- Park vehicle on level ground, set parking brake and place wheel chocks behind rear wheels.
- Raise the front of the vehicle with a jack and support securely on jack stands; remove the front wheel on the side being serviced.
- Inspect the existing tie rod assembly and spray penetrating oil on fasteners if corroded.
- Loosen the jam nut securing the inner tie rod to the outer tie rod but do not remove it yet.
- Disconnect the outer tie rod end from the steering knuckle using a tie rod end puller or pickle fork; remove cotter pin and nut as applicable.
- Unscrew the outer tie rod from the inner until the measured position (thread count) is noted to help maintain alignment, or measure toe settings before removal.
- Use appropriate tools to remove the inner tie rod from the steering rack — some applications require unscrewing from the rack housing; consult vehicle repair manual for any retaining clips.
- Install the new inner left-hand tie rod by threading it into the steering rack to the same engagement depth as the removed part or per service manual specifications; tighten to the specified torque.
- Reattach the outer tie rod and tighten the jam nut to secure the adjustment. Ensure the measured toe setting is close to original.
- Reconnect the tie rod end to the steering knuckle, install new cotter pin if applicable, and torque the nut to manufacturer specification.
- Reinstall the wheel, lower the vehicle, and torque lug nuts to specification.
- Have a professional wheel alignment performed after installation to ensure proper steering and tire wear.
