Installation / Application:
- Difficulty: 3/5
- Estimated time: 1–2 hours
Instructions:
- Work in a well-ventilated area and relieve fuel system pressure per vehicle service manual. Disconnect negative battery cable.
- Safely raise and support the vehicle with a floor jack and jack stands or use a lift. Place a drain pan under the fuel tank area.
- Drain fuel to a safe level if necessary and disconnect fuel lines, return line, and electrical connector at the sending unit. Cap lines to prevent spills.
- Support the fuel tank and remove tank straps or fasteners. Lower the tank just enough to access the sending unit flange (or drop the tank fully if required).
- Clean the area around the sending unit to prevent contamination. Remove the retaining ring or bolts and carefully lift out the old sending unit.
- Compare the new sending unit to the old unit for proper length, float clearance, and connections. Transfer any required fittings or grommets.
- Install a new sealing ring or apply gasket sealant as recommended. Position the new sending unit and secure with the retaining ring or bolts to the specified torque.
- Reconnect fuel lines (including the return line) and electrical connector. Inspect all hoses for wear and replace clamps as needed.
- Reinstall and secure the fuel tank, lower the vehicle, reconnect battery, and cycle ignition to pressurize the system. Check for leaks at all connections.
- Verify proper operation by observing fuel gauge response and, if available, check sending unit resistance with a multimeter across the manufacturer-specified range.
